Tired and Sore! ~ Wednesday 7/25/18

I'm so tired: as in physically tired and mentally tired of having sleep issues.  I'd have thought that, as exhausted as I was last night and as I had drank less than the previous day. I'd sleep great with a minimum of interruptions, but alas, no. I struggled with the pillows and the blankets and being sore and having to pee every 2 hours... all.night.long.  I was so tired when the alarm rang and sore all over.  The mattress itself is great, I've finally reaccustomed myself to it and with the foam topper on it, it's not too hot. At least, I don't feel like the bottom part of me is roasting anymore. But I still can't find a happy medium between the fans and the blankets. I'm either too hot, or I crave feeling the wind on me.  Ugh.

I got up at 6:45 a.m., petted Princess who was chirping for me, cooked Greg's breakfast, packed his lunch of leftovers, as usual, greeted Youngest Son and reminded him to stop by the high school after his class to pick up a new parking pass, and I went back to bed.  I slept until 8:15 a.m.  I didn't want to get up but I needed to go grocery shopping this morning and it's always better to go earlier than later, plus it rains in the late morning/early afternoon these days.

So I dragged myself in the shower. I'm still using the soap that Greg brought back from his Spanish hotel.  Then I brushed my teeth with a sample of Sensodyne that the dentist had given me.  I used body lotion that I'd brought back from one of our hotel stays while on vacation. The Coconut Lime Verbena scent is actually invigorating and I needed all the energy in the world this morning!

Downstairs, I petted the cutie Princess again, and then yelled because my avocado plant had been knocked over and chewed on, again! Thankfully the glass jar that fell to the ground was not broken.  I cleaned up the mess.  The cats were all looking at me with big round eyes. I'm pretty sure Explorer was the culprit. Ugh.

There wasn't milk left for breakfast,so I mixed a brick of UHT whole milk (bought at Dollar Tree) with its equivalent in water, to make 1/2 gallon of 2% milk.  I poured myself a mug of room temperature decaf brewed 2 nights ago, and brewed new pot of decaf since I was running low on the room temperature version.  I let it cool off.

I checked on the ice status and started ice machine, since Greg used half of the ice last night. I had planned on letting it run for only an hour but I went shopping even earlier than I had figured so it ran while I was gone and filled the basket.  What ice cubes wouldn't fit in my container went back in the water reservoir. They'll melt and make new ice cubes.

I started earning some rewards while I looked at the new online ads for Aldi and Save and Lot and tweaked my shopping list.  I decided to skip Save A Lot, and also CVS since I was only going to get milk there anyway.  So my itinerary ended up having only 3 stops on it, woohoo!

I decided to leave right away as it was already past 9 a.m. but first I took the recycling down to the curb since today was collection day.

I first drove to the pharmacy to pick up Youngest Son's last prescription.  The co-pay was $25 and I paid with my Health FSA credit card so there was no OOP for me and it was paid for with tax free money.

Then I drove to Aldi. It wasn't busy at all so I parked quite close.  I had noted that I only had about $72 left in my budget to spend, but then I ended up buying a lot of fruit because there were some good deals (cherries and plums at $1.39/lb, strawberries at $1.29/lb, blueberries at $1.29 a pint, navel oranges at $3.99/4 lbs and clementines at $2.79 for 3 lbs), and I stocked up on bacon jerky for Greg since they did have it today (I bought all 4 packs that were remaining!).  In the frozen section, I let myself be tempted by a 4 cheese pizza at $2.69 (we're having it for lunch, YS and I) 2 bags of pot stickers, and 4 boxes of maple turkey breakfast sausages. They don't always carry the maple flavor and it's my favorite.  I haven't dealt with my receipts yet, but I might be a tad over budget.  I paid with Amex for 3% back in Rewards.

My last stop was Walgreens, where I picked up the bookmarks that I had ordered a couple of weeks ago.  The cashier tried to get me to pay $1.99 for them!  No, no, no, I had used a code to get them for free!  She said the previous lady who picked up the same kind of order had said the same thing, but when she checked her confirmation email, it did say she had to pay $1.99.  I had left my phone in my SUV by mistake, so I went back to get it, searched my email, and found my confirmation that showed that I had used the coupon and that my order was free. The cashier then gave it to me for free, but kept on talking about how the other lady had had to pay and how she has more orders waiting to be picked up and they were all priced at $1.99.  I told her "it sounds like that women did not know how to use the coupon then, and good luck with the other orders, I think you'll have a lot of angry people!"  The bookmarks are a nice cardboard quality. The back says "One More Page!" and in the front there are 4 pictures of my kids and Greg, a couple of the kittens and my grandpup :)

Back home, I unloaded the SUV, took a picture of my shopping, and put everything away.  I had put "Defrost the chest freezer" on my To Do List and that's a big job because I have to completely empty it, chisel the ice off, and then scoop it all out, before putting everything back in place. I didn't feel like doing it but there was a thick (1 inch!) covering of ice alongside the top and now going over the top, so the seal wasn't working very well.  So I grabbed my metal spatula that I had gotten from a thriftstore, and a bowl, and I chiseled out all the ice from the top. Thankfully, I was able to get big chunks of it to fall. I caught as much as I could into a big bowl. See, maybe we didn't need to buy an ice maker!  Now my freezer closes well. But it's still too full because I can't stop buying thing to freeze or freezing leftovers!

Youngest Son came home. He wasn't able to get his parking pass because when he got there, he was told he needed to make copies of his registration, insurance and DL and also have a completed parking pass application and contract, both signed by the parents.  Of course the newsletter that came in the mail a couple of days ago and specified the 2 days when the kids could pick up their parking passes didn't mention any of this at all, the assistant principal never replied to my email, and looking at the high school's website, the information was only posted yesterday!  YS didn't think to check the website first.  So we printed the necessary forms and, oh my, it's so complicated.  For dual enrollment students, they want to see proof of registration for the Fall Semester, and it needs to show their name and student ID number too.  They can only get the decal for the Fall Semester, and then they'll need to get a decal for the Spring Semester once they've registered for their Spring classes.

Thankfully, the dual enrollment advisor had finally replied to YS's email this morning, telling him that she didn't know why he had received confirmation from the system last week saying that he was registered when she hadn't approved his registration, but that she'd forwarded everything to IT for them to look into it, and in the meantime had approved his registration (again?!?) so now he was all set for the Fall.  But when we were looking at their website to find ONE page that showed his Fall classes with his name and student ID number on there, we saw that the College Algebra class that he's registered for said "FULL, waitlist available" but without any explanations, so we don't know if that means that he's on a waiting list or if it means that the class is full but he is IN.  Arrgh, it's always something!  I told him to go ask Admissions tomorrow.  In the meantime, we printed 2 pages that we hope will prove that he is registered for classes.  In the process, I showed YS how to use the screen clipping tool from OneNote.

I had to change the black ink cartridge in the inkjet printer. The last time I changed it was back in May 2017.  Even though we only print in black and white, the color cartridges need to be changed all the time but the black ink only once a year?!  What a rip-off.

I baked the pizza for our lunch, Our ancient oven's temperature must be off because I baked it for less time than indicated and it's still overbaked!  Oh well. I should have baked bread too since the oven was hot, but I'd forgotten to get the dough out of the fridge (I think it had to rest for a while before I bake it, I can't remember) so I'll have to do that tomorrow.

While it was baking, I swept the kitchen, laundry room and Cat Room.  I'm still finding pieces of tempered glass from when the top of the artist desk broke, over two months ago!  I sprayed a small rug with the hose outside to dislodge some cat barf, and then went to retrieve the recycling bins that had been emptied.

Youngest Son took all 3 litter boxes outside, emptied them out completely and washed them, before refilling them.

It's now past 1 p.m. and I'm going to have my lunch!

Earlier this morning the manufacturer of the bluetooth adaptor whom I had emailed yesterday replied to me and said they'd looked at the converter that I had linked to and advised me on which model to purchase.  Before I do that, I'm going to see if perhaps the adaptor would work if I plugged it into the VCR's audio out as I'm more liable to watch DVDs than the over the air channels, at night.  I'll try it later on.

I caught up on blogs and the news and finished earning the daily rewards. Greg texted that he'd be late leaving work tonight :(

I went upstairs to try connecting the bluetooth adaptor to the DVD player and it works!  Woohoo!  So I can definitely watch DVDs and have the audio on my bluetooth speaker, behind my pillow and Greg won't hear anything. But if i want to watch TV or anything through the Roku, I'll need to try the converter, although according to the reviews, it might not work with Netflix? Hmm, I'll have to think about it.

Back downstairs, I decided to check the over-the-air TV listings to see if the Law & Order marathon still happens on Wednesdays and guess what?! It does! So I'm watching it right now. However it's on ION TV and that's one of the few channels my antenna didn't capture upstairs yesterday. So I researched which channels I'm missing that I might want to watch, and I'll see if I can add them manually.

I feel tired so it's a good thing L&O is on, I can veg out!  I'm going to input my receipts in my spreadsheets when the commercials are on, which is every 3 minutes, it seems.

It started pouring at about 3:30 p.m.  I felt sleepy so I didn't input my receipts.  I couldn't lie down to take a nap because Explorer was cuddling next to me!  I should have gone to my room to try to sleep though. But I just kept reading stuff on the internet instead.

It rained all afternoon.  A bit after 4:30 p.m. I received notification that the Roku that I had ordered from Ebay had been delivered to me, so I took advantage of a break in the rain to go check my mailbox. My daughter called at the same time, to tell me she'd gotten a 92 on her Calculus exam. Hooray!!  We chatted for a little bit.

I went upstairs to set up my Roku.  Unfortunately, the remote that the seller sent me didn't work.  I suspected that it was the wrong model of remote for that particular Roku. I tried everything for it to work (changed the batteries, tried resetting it, tried pairing it, tried pairing it while the wifi was off, etc. etc.) to no avail :( You can't use a Roku without a remote and you can't use the remote app on the phone if the Roku hasn't first been connected to your wifi (and without a remote, you can't connect it to the wifi!). It was very frustrating.

Wrong remote...
I decided to try the remote from my Roku 1 (since I don't use it) and that worked, but the Roku 1 remote doesn't let you access the options menu since it doesn't have the proper button on it so I couldn't have it do everything that I wanted.  After battling with that for over an hour and a half, I also realized that the seller had never reset the Roku to factory settings before mailing it to me, so I could access the previous owner's Amazon account and all their cable channel apps, as if I were them!  I could have also charged movie purchases to them (unless they had enabled a PIN code).  Tsk, tsk. So I reset the Roku to factory settings, and then I had to reconnect it to the wifi again and it took a while for it to redownload a bunch of channels. Then I used the Roku app on my phone to delete the channels that I didn't want (since I couldn't do that with the Roku 1 remote), and then I had to log in to all the apps that I did want.

Anyhoo, I was finally done at about 7 p.m.!!  The Ebay seller was very responsive and replied to my email in about 30 minutes, thanking me for resetting the Roku and apologizing for the remote problem. They said they didn't have another remote to send me so asked if I would accept a 75% refund of my purchase for my trouble so I could order myself a new remote. I thought about it, since I could now use the app on my phone, but decided that I needed the remote, in case I wanted to give the Roku away in the future or if I got rid of the Roku 1 (and it's remote) because I would be in a pickle if the Roku had to be reconnected again.  So I apologized again and accepted the refund. They were very nice about it, and I left them glowing feedback on Ebay.

For dinner, it was so late that I didn't make my own butternut squash soup from scratch. Instead, I used a cartoon of the same soup that I had in my pantry, and made grilled cheese sandwiches for YS and myself. Greg had some cooked chicken meat that I had defrosted. We agreed he would buy lunch tomorrow.

It started pouring again during dinner!

After dinner, I placed a new Amazon order for a Roku remote (it was only about $9) and the digital audio converter that the bluetooth transmitter manufacturer had recommended to me. That came to about $26, but I received $18.60 back from the Ebay seller.

The sky at sunset time is gorgeous!  I feel really tired so I might just go up early and try watching a show from my bed, lol.
